Kids Protection Plan®
For parents of minor children, a traditional will or trust is only part of the planning. We help parents put a Kids Protection Plan® in place to address both immediate and long-term care of their children, guardian choices, emergency information, and how money should be managed for children if the parents cannot be there.
Protecting What You Leave Behind
Good estate planning can do more than transfer assets. A properly designed trust can allow an inheritance to remain protected for a child or other beneficiary instead of being distributed outright. That can provide valuable protection if the beneficiary later divorces, is sued, or files bankruptcy. For example, inherited assets retained in a properly structured trust may be protected from claims by a divorcing spouse or other creditors rather than becoming assets available to divide or collect. The level of protection depends on the trust terms, applicable law, and the beneficiary’s circumstances, so this protection must be designed into the plan rather than assumed.

About Amy J. Schrum
Amy J. Schrum was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, and has dedicated her career to serving the legal needs of Alaskans. Today, Amy focuses her personal practice on estate planning, business law, and personal injury, drawing on more than a decade of diverse legal experience. Earlier in her career, Amy practiced extensively in the areas of family law, civil litigation, and criminal defense — experience that continues to inform her work and her mentorship of attorneys at Golden Heart Law.
About S. Thomas Peavey Hoffer
Tom has been providing premier legal services by helping clients solve problems, protect their rights, and navigate the legal system for almost 20 years. Since receiving his law degree from Florida State University, Tom has successfully litigated a variety of legal matters including business and real estate disputes, divorce/custody matters, employment issues (employee and employer), and criminal cases.
About Kristina M. Miller
Kristina M. Miller was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. She spent her childhood participating in sports like soccer, basketball, and skiing. while also playing the violin, singing in the choir, and participating in local FLOT productions. After graduating from West Valley High School, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Philosophy from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Later, she obtained her Juris Doctor degree from William Mitchell College of Law, now known as Mitchell Hamline School of Law.
